Article 1. Autism and Asperger's Early Warning Signs- By Karen Simmons Sicoli

We are all too familiar with children that display characteristics at an early age which seem odd or peculiar but can't quite put our finger on exactly what is wrong, if anything. Since Autism Spectrum Disorders also known as Pervasive Developmental Disorders are diagnosed by specialists through the observation of certain behaviors over time. This makes it entirely possible for the general public to at least learn what characteristics to watch for if they are suspicious that a child may have this disability. This way, if they have an idea that the child has autism, they can seek the proper channels for an accurate and early diagnosis by a professional in order to get the proper strategies and systems in place soon in the child's life. In this day of inclusion, learning styles and techniques must be taught and understood by everyone so the school experience for all will be as effective as possible

Article 2. Saving Your Sanity- By Maureen Bennie

Parenting in North America is an isolating experience. Most families do not have extended family living with them or near by to help with childcare. We live in communities where we barely know our next-door neighbors let alone the people three doors down. A typical family has a father at work all day while the mother is either at home with the children or working outside of the home for part of the day. Single parent households are common too, usually lead by the mother. Take any of these scenarios and add looking after small children in isolation with one or more of the children having autism and you have a mother who is feeling overwhelmed, down - possibly depressed.

Article 3 Understanding of Others' Intentions In Children With Autism.

Many studies have shown that children with autism have difficulty understanding the thoughts and beliefs of other people. However, little research has been conducted on what these children understand about simpler mental states such as intentions. The current study tested the understanding of others' intentions in 2 1/2- to 5-year-old children with autism and a control group of children with other developmental delays. We used Meltzoff's (1995) test of understanding of others' unfulfilled intentions in an imitation context, with an additional "End State" condition.

1. When Will The Rain Stop?

When Will The Rain Stop

By Doris Washington

An Autistic Man was killed today.
A deaf man's life was tossed away.
When Will The Rain Stop?
A young man with mental illness was killed
not to long ago.
Some of us ask Why?- And how can this be so?
When Will The Rain Stop?
They live in our communities- They have rights too.
There must be a better way- Why can't they be protected
like me and you?
When Will The Rain Stop?
Those who are charged to serve and protect them, are
the one's committing the crimes.
For their lack of training, and education surfaces every time.
When Will The Rain Stop?
It continues to rain, as we continue on with our daily lives.
Will another one become a victim? Will another one die?
When Will The Rain Stop?
When Will The Rain Stop? - So they can have their place too.
For the answer should be so easy in what to do.

2. Contest- Heart Warming Autism Stories
When my book, Little Rainman, was first published, you wouldn't believe the number of parents that told me their funny, cute, hilarious and sentimental stories about their own kids with autism! What a gift that was to me. I wanted so much to share them at the time and simply never had the chance. Soooo many stories, so little time.
If you are a parent, I'm sure you can remember when you first found out about your child's diagnosis! I can remember exactly where I was when I heard the news as clear as a bell. Ding Dong, right in the parking lot in front of Safeway! In fact even to this day, when I go there to shop I flash on that memory.
