Article 1. How to Respond to Anxious Questions- By
Nathan Ory, M.A
Some persons with autism ask questions about thoughts
that occur to them that do not mean to them what they
may mean to a more typical child. Caregivers attempt
to honestly answer these questions and often find themselves
inadvertently creating anxiety for their listener.
This article is about how to respond to questions by
people who become aware of something that is somehow
now relevant to themselves, but they couldn't possibly
understand the answer you know how to give.

Article 2. Nutrition for Children with Autism- By Karen
Simmons Sicoli
Did you know childhood obesity has doubled in the last
10 years and that 11 to 25 percent of youth are overweight
and out of shape according to leading expert, Dr. Christine
Wood visit: www.kidseatgreat.com
Though the twenty-year studies needed on our children
with Autism and Asperger's Syndrome have not been completed
do YOU really want to wait around to see how it turns
out? I don't. By the time people get around to pouring
money into research and studies for our children with
autism they will probably be over 80 years old and we'll
be long gone!
Since our children are EXTREMELY PICKY EATERS it makes
it that much more CRITICAL to pay close attention to
their eating habits!
As a mother of six children, two of which have special
needs, this was my WAKE UP CALL!!! I want them to be
and experience their personal best in their lives, as
I'm sure you do as well.
Though there are many products available, it is important
to do the proper research on nutritional efficiency
to supplement what our kids are supposed to get in REAL
FOOD, but aren't. I mean, REALLY, hamburgers, French
fries and milkshakes??? The pop food of the decade!
I invite you to investigate one solution I am using
for my children that I feel comfortable with you can

can also check out: www.humannutrition.com, Dr. Bannock
who has some autism related information available for
members.
Here's to your health and to the health of those you
love.

Article 3. Award Winning Girl Scout Project- By Angela
Lo
Katie Grimes is not your typical college student. The
20-year-old from Federal Way has autism, a disorder
she did not openly reveal until three years ago when
she started working on a Girl Scout project.
That project became the Federal Way Autism Support Group,
the community's first support group for parents of autistic
children. Grimes organized monthly meetings, scheduled
speakers, distributed fliers and designed an autism-information
booklet. The group now provides support for more than
90 families in the area. The project has earned Grimes,
a sophomore at Washington State University, national
recognition from the Girl Scouts. She and nine other
women from across the country will be honored in Washington,
D.C., next month as this year's Young Women of Distinction.
The award recognizes 10 young women who have provided
an exceptional service to their community and shown
great dedication to achievement.

Make Your Dreams Come True
By Doris Washington
Fly high little blue bird. Fly high above the sky.
Go beyond the horizons. Always continue to try.
Don't let others opinions discourage or limit you.
Always keep your spirits high, no matter what you go
through.
Stay the course, even when the going is rough.
Be persistant, keep going, and never give up.
And when others say you cannot, you say you can.
Find your own uniqueness, remember you are your best
friend.
And most of all believe in yourself, never stop believing
in you.
So fly high little blue bird. For there is so much you
can do.
