Article 1. Autistic Athlete breaking barriers- By Shane
Jones
When Karen Simmons wrote the Canadian best-seller "Little
Rainman" about her son Jonathan's trials and tribulations
dealing with autism she didn't know that the best chapter
was still to come.
Football is an intricate and difficult game for any
11-year old to learn. There are so many different plays
to learn and so many different tasks to perform on the
field. Getting everything down takes all the kids on
a team a lot of time and hard work. It is not the kind
of sport one would consider and ideal outlet for a child
with autism.

Article 2. Listening, Understanding, Sharing & Caring-
By Cathy Grant
As a person with autism, I consider myself fortunate
that I have friends and can maintain those friendships.
Some of these friends live here in Denver and others
live in places hundreds of miles away. To me, friends
mean that there is trust on both sides and that the
relationship is reciprocal. Friends understand me, even
when times are tough or when I am not the nicest person
to be around, and they are a source of self-esteem.
I am grateful to God for these special people He has
brought to me. In this essay, I will talk about four
of my closest friends and how these friendships are
special in their own way.

1. Poem- He is My Child- By Doris Washington
He is my child.
He is so precious, innocent, and mild.
He was born to me.
He has a- Disability.
There are times I cannot reach him.
And I don't know what to do.
He is "hurting" - and I "hurt" too.
It is difficult for him to express what he would
like to say.
And I ask the Lord to take the pain away.
For with my child- he is going through a Phase.
And I hold on to better days.
As-
I Pray For Him

Community Inclusion Heros
1. Mr. Mike- By Bill Davis
Push! That's it! Good Boy! Push real hard! Great Job!
My son was resisting and pushing against me testing
his strength, using his body, flexing his muscles. He
enjoyed exercise and I knew that it would be a great
way to communicate with him. I exercised with Chris
every day- we wrestled, went to the weight room, walked,
hiked, ran and bounced up and down. Gymnastics seemed
like the perfect choice for a child with Autism. It
was one on one, it developed not only physical fitness
but self-esteem, self-discipline, safety, interaction
and knowledge of one's body and how to control it. Chrissy
loved our workouts and I was determined to bring him
to the gym.
