I have a 10yr. old son
with Asperger's Syndrome. His name is Roberto. He
was diagnosed 3yrs. ago & definitely has most
classic characteristics of
the disorder. He certainly has certain choices in
foods & is picky or
particular about those & other things.
Roberto's easy to get along with.
He's sweet, polite, respectful, smart, funny, has
a sense of humor,
affectionate in his own way & works hard in
school. People tend to like him
very much. He's a happy child. His biggest fixation
is video games which
he's excellent in, but TV is also very important
to him. Roberto usually
watches "Cartoon Network", but every once
in while enjoys watching a video.
Scary stuff fascinates him & "Halloween"
is 1 of his favorite.
He always chooses to dress up with gory stuff. He
has made much improvement since his diagnosis in
the areas of social interaction, concentration,
focusing,
independence & occupational skills. His anxieties
or fears simply disappeared.
He still has though some tic disorders, but is aware
of them & usually keeps those under control
while in public. I told Roberto recently about his
autism & he's fine with it. Last yr. he was
chosen to join the "NC Boys Training Choir"
& in the spring promoted into the "Concert
Choir".
