Biomedical Interventions Expert William Shaw, Ph.D. obtained his doctorate in biochemistry, genetics, and human physiology from the Medical University of South Carolina. He is certified in the fields of clinical chemistry and toxicology by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry. Dr. Shaw worked for six years in nutritional biochemistry, endocrinology and immunology at the US Centers for Disease Control and for twelve years in Smith Kline Beecham Clinical Laboratories where he was involved with specialized medical testing for toxicology (poisons and drugs), immunology, tumor receptors and endocrinology. For the subsequent five years, William was an associate professor at the University of Missouri at Kansas City (UMKC) School of Medicine. At the same time, he served as Director of Clinical Chemistry, Toxicology and Endocrinology and the organic acid testing for metabolic conditions at UMKC's Children’s Mercy Hospital. Currently, William serves as Director of The Great Plains Laboratory for health, metabolism and nutrition in Lenexa, Kansas. He specializes in metabolic and nutritional factors in a wide range of human diseases, with a special focus on the the metabolic, infectious, nutritional, and immunological causes of autism and PDD. What can you do about it? was released in 2002 and features contributions from a long list of international autism experts including: Bernard Rimland, Ph.D., Director of the Autism Research Institute ; Bruce Semon, M.D., Ph.D.; Pamela Scott; and co-founders of ANDI (the Autism Network of Dietary Interventions) Lisa Lewis, Ph.D. and Karyn Seroussi. He also acts as Laboratory Consultant to The Metabolic Center For The Advancement of Health, where he works closely with another of our Resident Experts, Dr. Michael D. Brown. Dr. Shaw has been the keynote speaker at national meetings for the National Autism Society of America, the American Association for Environmental Medicine, and American Academy for the Advancement of Medicine. He has provided medical training about autism in virtually every state in the United States as well as in England, Scotland, New Zealand, Indonesia, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Spain, Venezuela, Mexico, Costa Rica, Canada, and Brazil.
