Jackie ...   Family Coach / Transition Specialist
Jackie ...Jackie Marquette has three adult sons Todd, Trent, and Travis. She is the author of Independence Bound, a book about finding and establishing independent living for Trent, her son with autism. In the book, she describes how she found the supports, resources, and help that Trent needed to reach his full potential.

Trent has been living in his own home for three years and, with the support of a roommate, he enjoys warm friendships and various aspects of the community that include a job. When Trent revealed a gift for painting abstract art, Jackie founded Trent’s Prints -- another mechanism for his self-sufficiency.

Jackie has over 15 years of experience as a special educator and consultant. After writing a successful grant proposal in 1999, she developed the Autism Community Training (ACT) Project through the Kentucky Autism Training Center. The project connects persons with autism to resources that secure employment in the community.

She is writing her doctoral dissertation at the University of Louisville to explore different strategies for establishing independent living for adults with autism. She obtained a master’s degree from Western Kentucky University and a bachelor’s degree from Kentucky Wesleyan College.

Currently, Jackie consults with Hardin County Schools and helps transition students with disabilities to resources, supports, and employment after high school. Jackie’s goal is to help people with exceptionalities and their families reach their dreams for independence. She offers information through a monthly online newsletter and other publications.
