Asked By: Question: Dr. Brown: My son is 13 years old, has Asperguer´s Syndrome and ADHD, and he has a very negative and impulsive personality. He had a negative reaction to Ritalin, and we keep trying other substitues but I have been reading about the effects of food that become salicylates, peptides, etc. to our children, and I am starting the Gluten-Casein free diet. Many recipes I have found include sugar, and I want to eliminate sugar also. What can you advise me to do? I really have hope with these changes. Thank you sooo much! Milena CR
Milena Arguello Several excellent books are available that deal with this comprehensively. The book of Lisa Lewis "Special Diets for Special Kids" is the best. Many children may have additional allergies such as citrus fruits, eggs, etc so doing an IgG food allergy test is appropriate. Check out the Great Plains website for more information and to order the book.

Asked By: Question: When my son is off the GFCF diet, his grades go down and he exhibits behaviors similiar to ADHD. He visits his dad every other weekend (who refuses to follow the diet until a medical doctor says it is medically necessary), so is there anything I can biomedically do to help prevent these candida flareups? Also, do you know of any medical doctor who will back up the GFCF diet? - we live in Salisbury, MD. Thank you.
Melody Southard There are many doctors who will back up the diet. Ask for local doctors in your area by calling customer service at Great Plains Lab at 913 3418949. Good luck!

Asked By: Question: My name is Julee Lares and my son, Ashton 5, has been a patient of Care Clinics in Tampa FL. We are left hanging with out any guidance and I need a little help. My son's IgG from Sept 2008 to May 2009 has gone from moderately and highly allergic to 45 foods to 58 foods. I need to know what this means and until I can get to the right Doctor what should I be doing for Ashton. We are on many supplements, custom probiotics, Valtrex, glutathione, TD DMPS and B12 injections. Thank you Julee Lares
Julee Lares When the number of food allergies is so great, the most common reason is severe dysbiosis, most commonly GI Candidida. Use of antifungal treatment and probiotics may be helpful. You may also want to supplement with digestive enzymes so that foods are less likely to trigger more allergies. You will need to find another physician to help you out with these treatments.

Asked By: Question: My six year old autistic son has just started to jerk his arms and legs involutarily while trying to sleep. I give him zinc, small dose B vitamins and fish oil. I hope none of these are causing it. He has always had a reqular facial grimace and head jerk, but the nightime stuff is new. How can I help him, what options do i have? thankyou Lisa
Lisa Lawrence Fish oil causes strage reactions in a small percentage of children with autism if they have carnitine deficiency, which is needed to utilize the fish oil. See if the side effects disappear after giving 500 mg of carnitine with the fish oil.

Asked By: Question: I am a school-based speech and language pathologist who has just published her first two guessing games in a major speech and language catalog. Would you be interested in receiving a pdf file by email which shows what the games look like and provides a brief description of their use? The games were recently uploaded onto the catalog website so I could also provide you with that information if that suits your needs. The website shows a nice close-up view of the gameboards. I look forward to hearing from you.

Asked By: Question: Hi Sir, We are doing bio med treatement for close to 1year for our daughter. We are doing iv chelation for over 7 mths. With so much she is still not talking is there anything we are missing or any particular testing to be done for her? she can understand what we are saying but cannot respond. In the middle the words were very clear but then she started to mumble again so what are we missing?
pria ravi Biomedical treatment doesn't dscribe what you are doing. There are probably more than 100 different treatments that qualify. You need a comprehensive review of all treatments and lab tests by your current physician or another physician.

Asked By: Question: My fiancé has been diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome since he was a small child. His doctor told us that the we could have a child with Autism because of Josh‘s A.S. I was wondering if you could tell me what the likelihood of having a child with Autism will be. Is it possible to know? Any help is greatly appreciated. -Laura Thorp
Laura Thorp There is definitely increased risk of an autistic spectrum disorder with one of the parents having this diagnosis. I doubt that anyone could give you a precise number for the exact risk. Autism is believed to be multifactorial with perhaps 20-50 genes or more involved.
