What is a Tele-Class?
A Tele-Class is a virtual classroom over the phone.
A simple interactive telephone conference call
that anyone can join from anywhere in the world.
Is there a charge for a Tele-Class?
Some Tele-Classes are free although, most have
a nominal charge as there is a presenter's fee
and bridging costs.
How about my long distance
costs?
Participants pay their own long distance phone
fees. The good news is that most people can call
long distance for free these days with the wonderful
long distance plans available. At the most if
you live in North America the cost shouldn't be
more than $10.00.
How does the Tele-Class
work?
At the appointed time, you and the other class
members will be calling a telephone number, and
assigned a certain unique pass code which must
be entered followed by the pound key. At this
time you will be welcomed to the call and time
permitting may be asked to introduce yourself.
The moderator will then introduce our featured
presenter who will present anywhere from 1 to
2 hours depending upon their conference.
I have kids and a dog
at home. How can I keep my background noise from
being heard?
You can press *6 at any time which will mute your
particular phone. It works as a toggle so you
press *6 again and you can once again be heard.
The only time you need to be heard is when you
are interacting with the presenter.
How do I know what time
zone I'm in?
Go to www.timeticker.com which has an excellent
tool to keep us all on the same page. It's also
a fun site!
Can people hear me on the Tele-Class?
People can hear you as long as your phone is not
muted. Be sure to only speak when you are asking
a question. Also be respectful of the other listeners
on the call. Even though everyone understands
what having kids means, no one wants to hear them
or the dog for that matter!
How many others are on
the Tele-Class?
There can be up to 1,000 or more at times but
don't let this intimidate you. Be a participant
and have fun.
How many questions can I ask?
Please be considerate. If you have asked a question,
offer the next turn to someone else so that everyone
has a chance. If no one is talking then you could
ask a second question.
How can I tell when I
can ask a question since no one can see me?
You're right. You can't raise your hand in this
format, however, somehow it always turns out fine.
Just jump in and ask. We're listening so don't
be shy.
Do I call in exactly at the time listed?
Its best to call in 5 minutes early so you aren't
disappointed as the lines are filled.
Do I do anything on my
computer while the call is taking place?
Only if the presenter has a Power Point presentation
he wants to show you. He may also want to show
you certain sites so it's always nice to be close
to one. Again it varies from presenter to presenter.
How do I end the call?
Simple. Just hang up! And of course join us the
next time we do a Tele-Class.
How often do you have
Tele-Classes?
We have them throughout the year. The best way
to find out our schedule is to visit our website
for the latest schedule and be sure to let us
know who you want us to have as a presenter. Also
sign up to receive our free newsletter at autismtoday.com
and we will let you know the latest and greatest.
