Autism Soccer’s Historic Japan Journey!

Scoring Beyond Limits: Empowering Athletes with Autism Through Soccer

Autism Soccer is a specialized training program that empowers individuals on the autism spectrum through soccer. Founded by Oscar Amuz, the program promotes inclusion and community by providing tailored lessons to children with ASD and intellectual disabilities. Since its inception in 2012, it has expanded to over 18 countries, impacting more than 25,000 children. The program enhances brain function by improving tactical, visual, and auditory processing skills, while fostering social connections. Autism Soccer fills a vital gap in autism services, offering athletes opportunities for growth, confidence, and empowerment.

From Local Fields to Global Stage: Autism Soccer Team's Historic Journey to Hiroshima

The Autism Soccer team is making history as the first-ever U.S. participants in an esteemed international event, marking a significant milestone in their journey. The squad is eager to showcase the gifts, talents, and remarkable spirit of its athletes, demonstrating their potential and determination on a global stage. This event, which aims to promote peace and friendship through the universal language of soccer, offers the team an opportunity to connect with others and highlight the importance of inclusion for individuals with autism.

The event, hosted by the Japan Development Support Soccer Association (JDSA), will take place in Hiroshima, where the team will arrive on March 30th. Alongside their participation in the games, the athletes and their families will also explore the rich history and culture of Hiroshima and its surrounding areas. The trip provides a unique chance to not only compete but to immerse themselves in the sights and experiences of Japan, fostering a deeper understanding of the global community.

JDSA has long been committed to providing specialized soccer training for children with developmental disabilities, based on their philosophy of viewing disabilities as individuality. By integrating soccer into the development process, JDSA empowers children to improve their skills, boost self-esteem, and build social connections, all while emphasizing the value of each individual. This program creates a nurturing environment where athletes are given the tools to succeed both on and off the field, with an emphasis on personal growth and acceptance.
